Laundry Pedestal-Check

As I mentioned in my previous post, we were going to start with the pedestal for my washer and dryer.  I didn't give cost a whole lot of thought and seriously estimated it to be about $30 bucks.....I mean seriously, how much could a little wood cost?

Hubby and I headed to Lowe's with a list of materials, which by the way, you can get fabulous step by step directions and material list from http://www.ana-white.com/  (I couldn't seem to get a direct link to the project but search around, its there).

Our very first stop was in the lumber department looking for the 3/4" MDF board.  $30 a sheet...WHOA!!!  I had no idea (and we needed two sheets).  Hubby probably would have been glad to have us turn our happy butts right around but I told him we had to do it now....I already blogged about it!!  (We laughed because not a single soul knows about this blog except for us....not sure why I haven't shared it with friends yet...just havent).  So we loaded it onto our cart as well as some 2x4's which were a couple bucks a piece and headed to the back of the store.

The most fabulous part about picking this stuff up at Lowe's is that they cut all of our wood for us!!!  The guy that helped us was named Jeff (Poinicana Lowe's) and he was awesome!!!  I handed him my project sheet and he cut the wood in less than 10 minutes.  Wow!  Not only is this seriously good service but it was going to save us so much time (plus we do not have the ability to haul whole sheets of plywood back to our house).....so I was thrilled!!

Anyways, after that was done we picked up the required screws, some trim pieces, and went on our merrily way home.  So ultimately, it cost us around $100 which doesn't include the paint that we already had at home.

It took hubby no time to whip this thing together, and voila here it is before paint:

We chose a great time to do this project because both of our boys were going to be home for Thanksgiving, so they helped to move this thing in the laundry room.  Here is a pic of my men moving it into the house:

This thing was heavy...the boys also came in handy when it came time to put the washer and dryer on top of it...yikes...they are even heavier than the pedestal!  I am glad Mark and I didn't have to try to do it ourselves.

And here, is the completed project....a beauty, eh?

If you look closely, the shelving is also a part of the "laundry room plan".....but I will tell you more about that soon!  I hope everyone is enjoying their long thanksgiving weekend!  I sure am.
